Fly Buys had a new sprint release coming up for its app and wanted to do a complete redesign. The criteria of the new design was to keep important customer information easily accessible and minimise clutter on the homepage. I also redesigned all pages to make it modern and clean with an emphasis on content. After the new app was released it went from a 2.4 star rating on the app store to a 4.2 star rating.
The existing homepage was getting cluttered with no clear hierarchy of content or links. The new app also required us to allow partners to promote specials and vouchers on the homepage, something that simply was not possible on the existing app homepage.
After breaking down what content was to be housed on the homepage, I opted for a tab style news feed, breaking down the different types of news feed items into colour codes, making them easily recognisable to the user.
Fly Buys orange is used on all tabs that are related to points and to your Fly Buys account. These tabs have no actions associated with them - just helpful reminders on how you points are stacking up and useful tips.
Fly Buys primary blue is used on all vouchers tabs. Vouchers tabs contain deals and specials that you can redeem. These tabs have the option of redeeming, which directs you to a detailed page of the voucher, and sharing to your peers.
Fly Buys tertiary blue is used on all specials tabs. Specials tabs contain information about products/services that are on special or have bonus Fly Buys points linked to them. You can either save the tab to your watchlist or share it.
I also added in the user’s card barcode to the design, allowing them to easily scan their card and gain points wherever they are. To access the card number and barcode is easy, simply pull down on the tab to reveal.
I added contextual menus to list items, allowing users to save and remove items as they pleased. With this I animated the feedback from user input, making it a more enjoyable experience for the person using the app while giving the user clear indications that an action has been completed.
We set up the most important information in the footer nav, and the ability to access all options in the hamburger nav, minimising clicks for the user to access key information.
All pages within the app have been redesigned and excess clutter removed. Along with this, animated feedback has been added throughout the app.
