BACKGROUND
I was approached by Kerry Gibb to concept key visuals for her first children's book aimed at 5-7 year olds. The story, "Vomitsville Express", shines a humorous light on a young family that gets struck with a stomach bug. The visuals were sent alongside her story as a pitch proposal to potential publishers.

Character exploration
After exploring various styles of characters, faces, eyes and expressions, I eventually settled on a style that worked for the story. From here I wanted to submit two options; a more abstract visual, and a more realistic, believable visual.
Realistic style
A more sincere style that still has elements of humour to it. This style was tailored towards the more conservative publishing companies.
Abstract style
This style is more fun, bright and playful. With the subject of the story being about stomach bugs, Kezza Gibb preferred this style and was used as a hero visual where possible.
