Project 02 of 10
Client: NZTE
Role: Design systems
Year: 2024
At NZTE I was a highly active contributor and early adopter of their new design system, Pallet. I designed several large components in the new design library and established documentation guides for ongoing use, collaborating closely with the design team and developers to ensure successful adoption into our day-to-day workflow.
Pallet is built on the Chakra UI component system. Every new component in Pallet references the Chakra UI documentation to ensure scalability and composability for designers and developers.
As a government agency, we must adhere to at least WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards. Every component added to Pallet is researched and designed to meet these requirements and must pass A11y tests before being accepted and adopted into Pallet.
Components added to the library mirrored the functionality required across our ecosystems and aligned with the same props and values as Chakra UI components, ensuring flexibility and scalability.
To streamline the design process, Pallet components were organised and configured with easily usable values and props, enabling a fast and efficient workflow for both designers and developers.
I created documentation guides for new components in the Pallet library, which fellow designers adopted. This documentation had to be completed before developer handover, ensuring clear functionality for developers to build and future teams to reference.
